WORDS FROM THE AP

I will be starting classroom WTs today! WT stands for walk through. I have blocked this time out on my calendar to make a better attempt to get into your classrooms. Please remind your students that I will be stopping in. Try and stay on task. Hopefully, my presence will have little impact on instruction as our student body becomes more familiar with me sneaking in and out.

Patti Hubbard and Denice Adams have been working hard all week getting the Honor Level System up and running. We are now ready. Regular lunch and after school detentions will begin on Monday. Lunch detentions will served in the 1st floor flex area this year. There are also a few changes with ISS. I have developed 4 components to ISS. Students entering ISS for 1 day or more must complete all 4 components. Below you will find the "new" ISS rules and procedures. My goal this year is to keep the number of students sent to ISS to a low, manageable number. Thanks for following your classroom management plans.

Components

1. ACADEMICS: The academic component is one of the most important parts of the ISS assignment and is intended to keep students current in their classes. Classroom teachers will be responsible for sending work to the ISS room within a reasonable time of it being requested. The ISS supervisor will be responsible for ensuring that students completed all work and that complete work has been place in the appropriate folders.

2. COUNSELING: All students assigned to ISS will be required to meet with a school guidance counselor sometime during their ISS assignment. This component may consist of individual and group discussions, simulation, role playing and other activities.

3. ISS ACTIVITY: All students assigned to ISS will be required to complete “Sailing Towards Excellence” as well as several other activities. These may consist of videos, social stories and activity sheets.

4. OTHER ACTIVITIES: Students assigned to ISS may be required to complete other activities as assigned by the ISS supervisor and/or Principal or Associate Principal. These activities may include writing letters of apology and school service projects.
