TODAY IN HISTORY
At 8:55 a.m. on November 28, 1895, six "motocycles" left Chicago's Jackson Park for a 54 mile race to Evanston, Illinois and back through the snow. Number 5, piloted by inventor J. Frank Duryea, won the race in just over 10 hours at an average speed of about 7.3 miles per hour! The winner earned $2,000, the enthusiast who named the horseless vehicles "motocycles" won $500, and the Chicago Times-Herald, sponsor of the race, declared:
Persons who are inclined…to decry the development of the horseless carriage…will be forced…to recognize it as an admitted mechanical achievement, highly adapted to some of the most urgent needs of our civilization.

"The Future of the Motocycle", The Chicago Times-Herald, November 29, 1895.

BLOG POLL

Monday's AP UPDATER post included a "poll" asking you to indicate by voting if you read the AP UPDATER that day or not. Twenty-nine people responded to the poll...this is an improvement from the last poll that resulted in five, but a far cry from the entire teaching staff. Please be sure to check the UPDATER when receive an e-mail indicating a new post. I thank you for continuing to check back regularly for updates as this is my way to communicate with you.

ISS, INFRACTIONS and MORE
Unfortunately, and for obvious reasons there will be some changes coming to ISS. At this time, I don't know exactly what changes those will be or when they will take place. In the meantime I ask that you be patient. I also may need to enlist your help in supervising individual ISS students in your room if temporary coverage in ISS is not available. Also...if you have been emailing infractions to ISS, you may continue to do that, but email them to me, slimberg@marinette.k12.wi.us with INFRACTION as the subject. Please send the e-mail by PRIORITY as I have recently been receiving so many e-mails each day that I can't guarantee that it will be read before the end of the day unless it is marked in red.

ALSO - THIS WEEK I WILL BE COVERING LUNCH DETENTION SUPERVISION UNTIL 11:30. IF THERE IS An ISSUE THAT NEEDS MY ATTENTION DURING THAT TIME, PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE AT X1500 AND HAVE BETH OR MICHELLE RADIO ME. YOU CAN ALSO TRY MY CELL PHONE @ 923-5651.
